Steps to Take To Rediscover Your Purpose and Yourself

When the noise finally dies down and the house quiets out, you figure this had to be your time to chill. After years of being a mother and a devoted wife, you probably hope this is your time to unwind, pick up a hobby, or take a vacation.

You’ve done all this, ticked all these boxes, and you still feel restless. Instead, your first feeling is probably emptiness.

The routines that used to give your day some shape are gone. You’re left standing there wondering what to do next.

This is a tough question. But on the other hand, it is also an invitation to self-discovery. When life takes a big change, it can be super easy to lose sight of what drives you. Yet sometimes, the best way to figure out what your purpose is again is to make a difference in someone else’s day. Being there for others the way you wanted people to be there for you when you needed them can be a real reminder of how strong and compassionate you are. It’s healing and it also shows you you have the capacity to feel and spread joy.

So here are some ideas to get out there and help others as you figure out who you are again.

Connecting with the Community

When you’ve been pouring all your love into your family for years, it can be a weird feeling when that suddenly vanishes overnight. But the caring part in you doesn’t disappear. It’s still there, and it’s waiting for a new channel to love and care, and somehow to redirect that energy. When you give to others, you are also giving to yourself.

Whether you choose to mentor, helping out at a local shelter, or just pop by to check in a neighbor who’s having a tough time, helping others can often bring some unexpected healing. When you walk with someone through their tough times, you also catch a glimpse of your inner strength and resilience looking back at you.

Connecting Through Faith

Faith has a way of drawing people together, especially when life feels uncertain. Serving within your church or faith community isn’t just about helping others. It’s about healing parts of yourself you may not have realized were hurting. When you share prayer, encouragement, and compassion, your own spirit is quietly renewed.
If you’re looking for ideas for a Christ led women’s ministry, start small. Create care packages for women in need, organize prayer circles, or gather friends to write notes of hope for those walking through loss or transition. These simple gestures plant seeds of love that grow far beyond what you can see.

Reconnecting with Friends

Sometimes, the next chapter of our lives doesn’t start with some massive upheaval. It can begin with a simple chat with an old friend. Reaching out to those pals from the past, or just putting more time and effort into the connections you’ve made, can be incredibly rewarding.
After years of putting the needs of your family first, it’s all too easy to find yourself drifting away from the women who used to make you laugh until your sides hurt. But the thing is, friendships have a way of reminding you who you are when all the roles you’ve taken on along the way start to fade away.

This is your sign to reconnect with your inner self and rediscover who you are. When you spread love around you, it has a way of finding you back.

Hi! I’m Christine!

It’s Never Too Late to Rewrite Your Story

If you’re standing at a crossroads—wondering where the “you” you used to know went—you are not alone.

Maybe you spent years pouring yourself into your family, homeschooling, raising kids with big needs and even bigger hearts.
Maybe you’re navigating a broken marriage, facing an empty nest that feels a lot emptier than you ever imagined, or grieving distance from your adult children.

You may be asking yourself: What happened to the life I dreamed of?
What happens now?

Here’s the truth:
It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

No matter the detours or disappointments, there is still hope.
There are still beautiful chapters ahead, waiting for you to write them.

My Story

Hi, I’m Christine—a marriage and motherhood survivor, a recovering perfectionist, and a woman determined to live the second half of life with purpose, passion, and a whole lot of pizzazz.

I spent decades doing what many women do: pouring myself into my family, raising children (some with big needs and even bigger hearts), homeschooling, navigating a long and complicated marriage, and trying to be everything for everyone. Somewhere in all of that, I lost parts of myself I didn’t even realize were gone.

During those intense years of deep mothering, I also wrote seven books for major Christian publishers about parenting, adoption, and homeschooling. I spoke at conferences, encouraged other moms, and tried to offer wisdom from the trenches.

And then—everything I held dear was challenged.

My kids started struggling in ways I couldn’t fix.
My marriage unraveled.
And so did the life I had so carefully built.

Divorce, the empty nest, the ache of adult children who didn’t launch quite the way I’d hoped—it all collided at once.

Sound familiar?

But here’s the good news:
It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

Now in my late 60s, I’m building a rich, meaningful life—not despite the hard chapters, but because of them.
I started dating again (and got married in May 2025!), I’m working full-time in my career as a criminal lawyer, and I’m dreaming bigger than ever.
I’m a woman of faith who’s walked through the fire—and found new life on the other side.

Let’s Walk This Road Together
