Should You Color Your Gray? Exploring the Pros and Cons of Dyeing Your Hair as an Older Woman

As we age, our hair changes. It can become thinner or grayer, which can be a cause for concern for many women. One question that often arises is whether to color your gray hair or not. While there are pros and cons to consider, ultimately it’s up to you to decide what works best for you. Here are some things to think about:

Best Hairstyles for Aging Women with Fine Thin Hair

If you have fine thin hair, you may want to opt for hairstyles that add volume and body. Layers can help create movement and give the illusion of fullness. Avoid heavy styles that weigh down your hair, such as long layers or thick bangs. Instead, try a short style that is easy to care for and adds volume, like a pixie cut or a bob.

Should You Color Your Gray? Exploring the Pros and Cons of Dyeing Your Hair as an Older Woman

There are several reasons why some older women choose to dye their hair. For one, it can make them feel more confident and attractive. It can also help cover up any gray roots that may be showing. However, there are also potential drawbacks to consider. Some people experience allergic reactions to hair dyes, while others find that the chemicals in hair dyes can damage their hair over time. Additionally, if you don’t maintain your hair properly, the color can look unnatural or “flat.” Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether the benefits outweigh the risks. If you do decide to color your hair, be sure to use high-quality products and follow the instructions carefully.

Best Short Styles for Aging Women

Short haircuts can be very flattering on aging women, as they require less maintenance and can be styled easily. Pixies, bobs, and even shags are great options for older women who want a low-maintenance ‘do. Just be sure to choose a style that complements your face shape and lifestyle.

Hairstyles for Aging Women: Embrace Your Natural Beauty

Not everyone wants to color their hair as they get older. In fact, some women prefer to embrace their natural beauty by letting their gray show. If this sounds like you, there are still plenty of hairstyles to choose from. Consider going for a longer length, which can help create a more youthful appearance. Or, try adding waves or curls to your hair to give it texture and movement. Whatever you choose, remember to take care of your hair by using good quality hair care products and getting regular trims.

Haircare Products for Aging Women: What to Use, What to Avoid

As we age, our hair becomes drier and more fragile, making it important to use hair care products that nourish and protect it. Look for products that contain ingredients like keratin, which can strengthen hair fibers, and moisturizing agents like shea butter or coconut oil. On the other hand, avoid harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens, which can dry out your hair and cause irritation. Also, be mindful of how you wash and style your hair. Using heat tools too frequently can cause damage, so try to air dry whenever possible and use a heat protectant spray when necessary.

How to Decide Whether to Start or Continue Coloring Your Hair as an Aging Woman

The decision to start or continue coloring your hair as an aging woman is a personal one. There are both pros and cons to consider, including the cost, the time commitment, and the potential health risks involved. Think about how you feel about your gray hair and whether coloring it would make you feel more confident and attractive. Also, talk to your doctor or dermatologist about any concerns you may have regarding the safety of hair dyes. Ultimately, the most important thing is to do what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful.

Hi! I’m Christine!

It’s Never Too Late to Rewrite Your Story

If you’re standing at a crossroads—wondering where the “you” you used to know went—you are not alone.

Maybe you spent years pouring yourself into your family, homeschooling, raising kids with big needs and even bigger hearts.
Maybe you’re navigating a broken marriage, facing an empty nest that feels a lot emptier than you ever imagined, or grieving distance from your adult children.

You may be asking yourself: What happened to the life I dreamed of?
What happens now?

Here’s the truth:
It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

No matter the detours or disappointments, there is still hope.
There are still beautiful chapters ahead, waiting for you to write them.

My Story

Hi, I’m Christine—a marriage and motherhood survivor, a recovering perfectionist, and a woman determined to live the second half of life with purpose, passion, and a whole lot of pizzazz.

I spent decades doing what many women do: pouring myself into my family, raising children (some with big needs and even bigger hearts), homeschooling, navigating a long and complicated marriage, and trying to be everything for everyone. Somewhere in all of that, I lost parts of myself I didn’t even realize were gone.

During those intense years of deep mothering, I also wrote seven books for major Christian publishers about parenting, adoption, and homeschooling. I spoke at conferences, encouraged other moms, and tried to offer wisdom from the trenches.

And then—everything I held dear was challenged.

My kids started struggling in ways I couldn’t fix.
My marriage unraveled.
And so did the life I had so carefully built.

Divorce, the empty nest, the ache of adult children who didn’t launch quite the way I’d hoped—it all collided at once.

Sound familiar?

But here’s the good news:
It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

Now in my late 60s, I’m building a rich, meaningful life—not despite the hard chapters, but because of them.
I started dating again (and got married in May 2025!), I’m working full-time in my career as a criminal lawyer, and I’m dreaming bigger than ever.
I’m a woman of faith who’s walked through the fire—and found new life on the other side.

Let’s Walk This Road Together

If you’re wondering what’s next after the life you planned didn’t turn out the way you hoped, you’re in the right place.
We don’t have to shrink or settle.
We get to rise, reclaim, and sparkle.

So pour a cup of coffee (or something stronger), and let’s keep going, together.
