Redecorating on a Shoestring

Spread the love

There is no way around it. Owning or even renting a home can be really expensive. The running and maintenance alone are pretty sizeable. So you want to love the home you are in, and that requires putting your personal stamp on it. So if you are on a tight budget, then don’t worry – that is possibly more fun anyway. You can get really inventive and test your upcycling and bargain hunting skills.

Replace One Big Thing

So it might be the walls are horrible, and you want those beautiful whitewashed walls that adorn all of the home and garden magazines, interior blogs and websites and of course Instagram. Whatever the big thing is, try and use a place like https://shopdiscountdirect.com/lynnwood-furniture so you can maximize what you can have for your money.

Use What You Have

Sometimes merely rearranging things can give the room a really fresh new look and feel. Move photos and wall art to different walls, or remove them altogether. If you have an excellent couch, but the color doesn’t work with what you want – rather than scrap it, think about covering it instead. Change the handles on the drawers and cupboards, then get small candle holders and vases to match. Consider painting or varnishing your wooded items too. From dark brown to whitewashed wood isn’t too hard and is really rewarding once it’s done.

Bye Bye

Grab a piece of paper and start walking around the rooms of your home. What do you love? What do you hate? What needs to go? There are plenty of things taking up room, that you either don’t like or don’t use. So give them to charity stores, or sell them. Freeing up a lot of space can instantly give your room a facelift. While you are at it – deep clean the room. Dust can gather in corners that we don’t always see, smudges and stains – go to town on a really deep clean.

Lighten Up

If you have dark wood, think about upcycling it all to a whitewashed wood. The distressed white wood works very well for Nordic, Scandinavia, and Nautical style rooms. It will help the space look bigger too. Plus, once you have everything in the room at a neutral tone, you can mix and match as you like for years to come – because your base will always be a light, neutral tone.

Get Creative

When you are on a budget, it is easy to dream about all of the things you want. It’s less easy to imagine what things COULD be. But, you’re going to have to try for a while. When you are looking in thrift stores, online, in vintage stores or even around your own home. Focus on one thing at a time, and you might be surprised what you can create.

Take your time. Trying to create a whole need room in a weekend, or even over a week isn’t the easiest thing to do. And you might not get it exactly how you want it, because you’ve rushed. Take it slow and get creative

Hi, I’m Christine

Have you been a wholehearted mother, but time, toddlers and teenagers have moved on? If you are wondering what comes next for you, you’ll feel right at home here.

Or, are you a mom for whom family life has been non-Pinworthy and parenting has been downright painful? I hear ya. There are many of us around.

Are you looking for a life full of exploration and adventure after the nest empties, but maybe you have no idea how to go about doing that? Stick around! We’ll explore adventures together to help you gain more clarity for your own path.

After a couple decades of writing books and articles about parenting, homeschooling and adoption, speaking to homeschoolers and other parent groups, and reaching out to the mom in the trenches who was trying to make the best of it - my kids grew up. Some grew up and grew away. I was determined to find a way out of the pain, emptiness and lack of direction.

For many of us, the journey starts with something we moms are not accustomed to. After years of caring for and serving others, sometimes we forget the beauty and wonder of US. We need to spend some time getting to know the parts of ourselves that have lain dormant, and take the time to explore interests and passions that we set aside.

I’d like to invite you to get the “What’s Next for Mom” workbook and jump into this growing tribe of Moms who are emptying the nest and filling the life! Let’s reignite your Mojo after Mothering!
