Why I Love Amazon Prime

July 11, 2016 By Christine Field

This post may contain affiliate links.

When I was a new mama, many moons ago, I was a bit crunchy. By that I mean I cooked most things from scratch (made crunchy granola too), did cloth diapering for a time, made homemade bread, homeschooled the kids.

As more kids arrived, I became more practical. As they moved into middle and teen years, I got downright efficient! With all the things we had to do and all the dreams we were chasing, I needed to get things done quickly and easily.

Enter Amazon Prime. I love it! My UPS man is very friendly with my family because he’s always here, it seems.

This is the perfect time to join Amazon Prime. July 12th is Amazon Prime Day. They are calling it a summer Black Friday.

I am, of course, an Amazon affiliate. If you purchase through my links, I receive a small portion to support the expenses of this website.”

Lots of deals are being featured and, of course, it all ships free when you are an Amazon Prime Member. If you sign up during this promotion, you get a free 30 day trial membership!

That means you can try it completely free for 30 days. If you’re not thrilled, cancel and you won’t hurt Amazon’s feelings at all.

Yes, it’s $99 per year. Let me ask you this: Have you shipped anything lately? It’s not cheap. Any items ordered through Amazon Prime are shipped to you free of charge. With the frequency of my ordering, as you will see below, I’ve easily saved much more than this on shipping charges.

When my kids were younger, it was a major production to load everyone into the van and head out to WalMart. With Amazon Prime, you can purchase many of these items on Prime and have them shipped right to your door.

Another major reason to join — Christmas. Let’s face it moms, we are usually the ones tasked with buying gifts for everyone. There are your kids, aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers and more. Amazon organizes Christmas into gift-giving categories and gives you tons of ideas for all of these.

But there are even more benefits. You can get many FREE Kindle books through your Prime Account. In addition, there is a huge lending library so you may be able to find titles with ease.

I only recently learned that Amazon Prime gives you unlimited photo storage! If you have ever had a computer crash, you know the heartbreak of this situation.

What else? How about free videos and television shows, kid’s shows and free streaming music. Last year, we got the Amazon Fire Stick and use it to watch Netflix and Amazon videos through our television set.

OK, at the risk of disclosing family secrets (not really!) I decided to list the items we had recently purchased through Amazon Prime. When I looked up my orders for the past six months, I learned that I had made 57 orders! (I may need to rethink my shopping habits…)

Here is a sampling of the items I have ordered over the past months and why.

Lynne Lee is my accountability partner in writing, blogging and course creation. This is one of the books she wrote. It is excellent and you will be hearing more from her in the near future.

I saw this book at the public library and knew I had to get it. Got atypical kids?

My laptop is becoming crowded and I sometimes switch computers. Got one of these. Of course it’s red.

This stuff is hard to find at the store, so I ordered a supply online.

This is the textbook my daughter is using for her summer course. Did you know that you can RENT textbooks? What a huge savings this has been!

My dear son-in-law wanted this for his birthday. Bam. Got it.

Got this because I’d like to learn how to do creative lettering. Maybe when I’m old – heh heh.

The liquid of life. These K-cups can get pricey so I always look for deals.

These were requested as a gift.

This book chronicles the development of pain pill mills in America. Fascinating.

Gotta have printer ink.

Because the grandson likes to read.

Another project book for when I am old.

I became interested in the writing of Fr. Richard Rohr this year and have been picking up everything he’s written.

Owning a home with kids and pets gets messy. This is the 3rd one of these I’ve purchased. It’s incredibly handy for spills and upholstery cleaning.

Because I’m kind of a nut about dental hygiene.

Because I wanted just the right size.

Because it’s cheaper than the pharmacy.

I like to keep a radio in the bathroom. Of course it’s red.

Because I have a thing about soft feet.

Not proud of this, but there are punners in my family. This gives me fodder and I bring it to family parties.

There were more, but you get the idea. Maybe I’ll do this again around Christmas.

Amazon Prime is super valuable and I use it at least a week. I’m not a big shopper. I don’t do it recreationally or therapeutically (like some sister I have – heh heh) so Amazon Prime solves a lot of challenges for me. Know what you want. Get it. Get it done. That’s my style.

Take advantage of this great service.

Hi, I’m Christine

Have you been a wholehearted mother, but time, toddlers and teenagers have moved on? If you are wondering what comes next for you, you’ll feel right at home here.

Or, are you a mom for whom family life has been non-Pinworthy and parenting has been downright painful? I hear ya. There are many of us around.

Are you looking for a life full of exploration and adventure after the nest empties, but maybe you have no idea how to go about doing that? Stick around! We’ll explore adventures together to help you gain more clarity for your own path.

After a couple decades of writing books and articles about parenting, homeschooling and adoption, speaking to homeschoolers and other parent groups, and reaching out to the mom in the trenches who was trying to make the best of it - my kids grew up. Some grew up and grew away. I was determined to find a way out of the pain, emptiness and lack of direction.

For many of us, the journey starts with something we moms are not accustomed to. After years of caring for and serving others, sometimes we forget the beauty and wonder of US. We need to spend some time getting to know the parts of ourselves that have lain dormant, and take the time to explore interests and passions that we set aside.

I’d like to invite you to get the “What’s Next for Mom” workbook and jump into this growing tribe of Moms who are emptying the nest and filling the life! Let’s reignite your Mojo after Mothering!
