How To Move Your Blog To A New Site Without Losing Readers

Spread the love

If you have been running your blog for a while, you might decide that you want to give it an update and change things around a bit. Having a new design for your blog can make it a lot easier to get new readers and convince companies to work with you on sponsored posts. Sometimes, a few simple design changes have the desired effect, but you may decide that you want a complete rebrand with a whole new design and maybe even a new name. In that case, you need to move your blog from one site to another. Moving all of your content onto a new site is a lot harder than people realize and if you aren’t careful, you could lose a lot of readers and it can affect your search engine rankings which makes it hard to find new readers as well. But if you keep these 3 important things in mind, you should be fine.

Organize All Of Your Content

During the process of moving your content, there is a chance that some could be lost or posts could be put up under the wrong categories etc. That’s why it’s important that you have all of your content stored and organized properly before you get started. It will make life so much easier when you are uploading it all to your new site. It’s worth investing in some information management software (visit https://www.templafy.com/intelligent-information-management/ for more information) to help you out. You will be able to catalog all of your content and search through it easily. When you come to post things again on your new site, you can find the relevant content in seconds, which is very useful if the blog has been going for a while and you have a big back catalog of posts.

Let Your Readers Know

Before you move the site, it’s important that you let all of your readers know. People will be disappointed if they go to your old site and all of a sudden, it’s gone. So, you need to make sure that you inform people ahead of time. You can do this on the blog itself, but also on social media. If you use scheduling tools like CoSchedule, you can post on all of the different platforms at once, and set up regular messages to go out over the weeks leading up to the move. Don’t just make one post and expect everybody to see it because a lot of people won’t.

Redirect The Old Site

Even if you post about it on social media, there will still be some people that didn’t get the memo and head over to the old site. You need to make sure that you redirect the old site so people can still find you. This is also important for your search engine rankings because if people are linking to the old site and it’s just a dead page, you don’t see the benefit of those links. But if it is all redirected, your search engine rankings should stay intact.

As long as you don’t forget these 3 important things, you should be able to move your blog to a new site without losing any readers.

Hi, I’m Christine

Have you been a wholehearted mother, but time, toddlers and teenagers have moved on? If you are wondering what comes next for you, you’ll feel right at home here.

Or, are you a mom for whom family life has been non-Pinworthy and parenting has been downright painful? I hear ya. There are many of us around.

Are you looking for a life full of exploration and adventure after the nest empties, but maybe you have no idea how to go about doing that? Stick around! We’ll explore adventures together to help you gain more clarity for your own path.

After a couple decades of writing books and articles about parenting, homeschooling and adoption, speaking to homeschoolers and other parent groups, and reaching out to the mom in the trenches who was trying to make the best of it - my kids grew up. Some grew up and grew away. I was determined to find a way out of the pain, emptiness and lack of direction.

For many of us, the journey starts with something we moms are not accustomed to. After years of caring for and serving others, sometimes we forget the beauty and wonder of US. We need to spend some time getting to know the parts of ourselves that have lain dormant, and take the time to explore interests and passions that we set aside.

I’d like to invite you to get the “What’s Next for Mom” workbook and jump into this growing tribe of Moms who are emptying the nest and filling the life! Let’s reignite your Mojo after Mothering!
