Home Security (It’s Not All About Surveillance Cameras)

When considering the concept of home security, most homeowners think about CCTV cameras and burglar alarms. In reality, though, there are many alternative issues to consider when protecting your property. Quite frankly, only a comprehensive approach to the situation will do.

Here are five additional elements that must be considered when creating your perfect strategy.

1| Preventing Unwanted Access

The whole purpose of security cameras is to deter potential intruders. However, it’s still possible that they will try to enter. When they do, having robust locks on all doors and windows will prevent them from gaining unauthorized access. This concept should extend to garage doors, conservatory doors, and even backyard fences. When would-be burglars cannot enter the property, your family will gain the peace of mind it deserves. As such, this should be a central focus of the security plan.

2| Addressing Climate Conditions

Depending on where your home is located, your home could be at risk of flooding, hurricanes, or one of many other dangerous weather types. Protecting your property with flood barriers, window shutters, and related items can make all the difference. Aside from the direct benefits of limiting any damage, it could reduce your home insurance premiums. If this doesn’t provide a big enough incentive for taking the necessary steps, nothing will. Now is the time to make those changes.

3| Utilizing Alarm Systems

While outside dangers are the biggest concern, the truth is that internal issues are far more likely. Fires, gas leaks, and other problems caused by operational faults need to be accounted for. Carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms should be on your checklist. In an ideal world, you’ll never need to rely on those features. If you do, however, having those items in place could save your lives. For the sake of your safety and sanity, annual checks and servicing are required too.

4| Securing Financial Stability

When looking to protect the home, you are primarily trying to support your family. Keeping a roof over their heads is unquestionably the most crucial element to consider. Ensuring that the home won’t harm your finances is an essential step en route to success. This can include making eco-friendly upgrades, reducing waste, or simply cost-comparing purchases. When combined with home upgrades that are built to boost the value of the home, the results can be truly phenomenal.

5| Treating Minor Damage

The property will inevitably need a little TLC from time to time, especially when structural faults surface. Identifying signs of damp or mold at the earliest stage is vital for protecting your health as well as the home. Likewise, leaks and issues with the roofing should be seen by an expert ASAP. Leaving the problems to escalate will lead to greater damage and a more expensive and lengthy repair job. The old saying states that a stitch in time saves nine. Do not forget it.

While these five issues alone won’t cover every aspect of protecting the home, they will certainly handle most. Get them under control right away, and the results will shine through in no time.

Hi, I’m Christine

Have you been a wholehearted mother, but time, toddlers and teenagers have moved on? If you are wondering what comes next for you, you’ll feel right at home here.

Or, are you a mom for whom family life has been non-Pinworthy and parenting has been downright painful? I hear ya. There are many of us around.

Are you looking for a life full of exploration and adventure after the nest empties, but maybe you have no idea how to go about doing that? Stick around! We’ll explore adventures together to help you gain more clarity for your own path.

After a couple decades of writing books and articles about parenting, homeschooling and adoption, speaking to homeschoolers and other parent groups, and reaching out to the mom in the trenches who was trying to make the best of it - my kids grew up. Some grew up and grew away. I was determined to find a way out of the pain, emptiness and lack of direction.

For many of us, the journey starts with something we moms are not accustomed to. After years of caring for and serving others, sometimes we forget the beauty and wonder of US. We need to spend some time getting to know the parts of ourselves that have lain dormant, and take the time to explore interests and passions that we set aside.

I’d like to invite you to get the “What’s Next for Mom” workbook and jump into this growing tribe of Moms who are emptying the nest and filling the life! Let’s reignite your Mojo after Mothering!
