If you want to ensure that your home is ready for the fall and winter seasons, then there are a few jobs that you should aim to complete before the season gets into full swing, including the following:
- Roof repairs
When fall gets into full swing and rain and wind become a bigger problem than it is in the summer, you need to know that your roof is in good shape to keep the elements at bay and keep you and your home safe and warm. That is why now is the perfect time to get up that ladder and check that all of the shingles are in place and there are no cracks or damage to be seen. If there is an issue, then use reputable roof repair services to sort the problem out. You really cannot afford to go into the fall with a roof that is not fit for purpose.
- Check the thermostats
You will be using the heating a lot more when fall comes around, so checking that the thermostats are in good working order, have fresh batteries, and actually work to power the heating, is a really smart move to make. You might also want to think about switching to a smart thermostat that can help you save money now that the cost of energy is so high.
- Have the furnace services
Having your furnace, and or HVAC system serviced to ensure that it is in good working order, the filters are changed, and it is ready to go when you need it, is also really sensible if you do not want to be without heat when the weather starts to cool.
- Fix any broken weatherstripping
Go around all of your windows and external doors and check for drafts, cracks, or breaks in the weatherstripping. If the weatherstripping is loose or broken, it will cause your home to be drafty when the weather gets cooler, while also meaning that your home is not as energy efficient as it could be. It is better to replace it now in the summer than to wait until the fall when it will cause you much more of a problem.
- Install insulation
If your home is not already well insulated, then installing some before the falls comes along is a smart way to ensure your home is as cozy and energy efficient as it can be in the cooler months of the year.
- Clean the gutters
Clearing out the gutters now means they will not end up overfilled and overflowing when the leaves start to fall off the trees and the rain starts to come down in buckets. You’ll need to keep on top of them in the fall and winter, but a good clean now will make life so much easier for you.
If you can carry out as many of these jobs around the house before the fall season starts, then you can rest assured that your home will be as comfortable, safe, and cozy as you would ole it to be when the weather starts to change.
