My friend Virginia and I have known each other a long time and we share many interests. When we come up with an idea, we run with it. That has resulted in co-authored e-books, seminars, countless brainstorming sessions, praying together and loving life.
For about five years, she had mentioned her desire to visit a hat shop in Chicago. In a world of automatation and imports, this place was a craftsman’s palace, touting Chicago’s finest handmade hats. They had been worn by the Hon. Richard J. Daley, Chicago’s longtime Mayor, many celebrities and had been commissioned for movies and more. A hidden Chicago secret, this shop had lived on the city’s south side for generations.
Virginia and I share a birthday month – April. Rather than give gifts, we decided to take a field trip day to Optimo Fine Hats on Chicago’s South side. Two of my sisters tagged along and we rounded the day out with a fabulous lunch.
The motto at Optimo is, “Life’s better in a great hat.”
To which I would say, “Life’s better when you get up and DO the odd things that cross your mind to do.”
“Life’s better when you do the small simple things that yield pleasure.”
“Life’s better when you appreciate quality.”
“Life’s better when you share the simple things with family and friends.”
How about you? What are the small things you have put off doing? Picking flowers in a wild field? Visiting an obscure shop?
Do them, enjoy them, share them. There’s no time like now!
