I am starting the new year with lots of newness! I have set out to learn new software, build my website, make more goodies to share with you and, Lord willing, write more books.
One of the favorite books I’ve written was called Life Skills for Kids. In the book I deal with several areas of life that deserve some extra time and training with our kids. A big area is learning how to work hard and how to have a good attitude towards work.
While raising my four kids, we used chores and special jobs around the house to teach about work. I plan a series of articles about how to teach and train.
For this first article, I prepared a series of cards to deal with assigning irregular chores to the kids. We had charts and methods for the everyday stuff, but in a house with a lot of people, there are always tasks that need to be done periodically to handle overall maintenance.
I wrote each task on an index card. On the Saturday we chose to do irregular chores, I would either shuffle the cards and give each child an equal number, or I placed them all down face-down and allowed them to make their own choices. Of course, they would then try to bargain and trade the jobs, and that was always fun to watch!
Here is a pdf of some chore cards to get you started. They might not all apply to your situation, so I have included some blank cards for your to add your own tasks.
I hope this blesses you. Please feel free to share with a mama who needs to hear this.
