The Book is Still Being Written
One of my children is discouraged.
No, I won’t share names or details.
It doesn’t matter.
They have made a few mistakes.
Who among us hasn’t?
This child feels the mistakes have doomed them for life.
So young, so discouraged.
And the news of the culture is discouraging.
Bad economy, no jobs, lots of debt.
Why finish college?
Why have goals? Why try?
I tell them gently, “We’ve all been there.”
Full of regret.
Sad for wasting time and opportunities.
Been on my knees saying, “Lord, I messed up.”
Tell the truth. You’ve been there.
But you crawled out.
Someone extended a hand.
Someone helped.
Someone believed in me.
And the Lord reached down
saying, “My child, you are loved.
Yes, you’re messed up, but I love you.
Lift up your eyes and realize
The book of your life is still being written.”
I tell my child the same.
It will get better.
Good things are ahead.
Persevere through the hard times.
It will grow you, stretch you.
In the growing, in the stretching,
What will emerge will be
Amazing.
Beautiful.
Strong.
You.
My child.
So loved.
Strong.
Writing the book of your life.
Turn the page with great expectation.
His mercies are new every morning.
