We all want to look and feel good, and a big part of that is our style, right? The problem is, many of us do not really know what our style is or even how we can find it. That’s why, below, we are going to take a quick look at a few things you can do to dress like you, and look your best, no matter whether you’re hanging out at home or hitting the bar. Sound good? Read on.
Start With What You Already Love
If you want to find your style, then it makes sense to start with the stuff you already own and love. Sure, you might not be absolutely in love with everything in your wardrobe, but there are sure to be individual pieces you adore, so get them out of the closet, and think about what it is you love about them, whether it’s the color palette, cut or era they come from, and this will provide a good jumping off point for building a wardrobe full of pieces that scream “you.”
Use Inspiration Strategically
Inspiration is helpful, but it’s easy to get lost in endless scrolling without ever really hitting on the right sort of thing for you. So, instead of saving everything you like, look for patterns. Are there recurring shapes, colors, or moods in the outfits you’re drawn to? You might notice a preference for minimalism, edgy streetwear, bohemian layers, or polished classics. The goal isn’t to copy someone else’s look, but to understand why certain styles resonate with you.
Consider Your Lifestyle (Not an Idealized One)
Your style should reflect and fit in with the life you actually live right now and not the life you dream of living in your head (because we all have those dreams about being a sophisticated lady of leisure or maybe a wild adventurer, right?) Think about how you spend most of your time, whether it’s working from home, commuting, socializing, parenting, or being active, and choose clothes that will not only look great, and appropriate, but allow you to navigate those things with comfort and ease. There’s no point looking good if you can’t actually live your life, right?
Express Yourself Beyond Clothing
It’s fair to say that fashion and style is not limited to outfits. Accessories, hairstyles, makeup, and even body art can all be part of your self-expression, as can piercings (just make sure you understand how to care for them(check out this belly button piercing aftercare guide). In fact your hair and accessories can be a huge part of how good you look and feel day to day, so it is super important that you get this part of your personal style right, and that you do not make permanent decisions, like tattoos, lightly.
Define, Then Refine
Once you start seeing patterns, try describing your style in a few words – think “casual and modern,” “soft and romantic,” or “clean with an edge.” This becomes your filter when shopping or getting dressed. Over time, you can refine it further, adjusting as your tastes, body, and life evolve.
Time to find your style!
