5 Tips for Increasing Your Range of Motion

Being flexible and maintaining a good range of motion is essential for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Flexibility allows us to move freely and perform daily activities without discomfort or pain. However, it can become limited due to various factors, such as aging, injury, or lack of physical activity. Check out five tips for increasing your range of motion.

Stretch Regularly

Stretching helps to elongate muscles, improve joint mobility, and increase blood flow to the muscles. Incorporating stretching into your daily routine can lead to an overall increase in range of motion.

Dynamic stretches, which involve moving while stretching, are especially beneficial for improving range of motion. These include arm circles, leg swings, and torso twists. Hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds and repeat on both sides.

You should also do static stretches, holding a stretch for several seconds without moving. These can include hamstring stretches, chest openers, and quad stretches. Aim to do static stretching at least two to three times per week.

Keep Your Body Nourished

Our muscles rely on proper nutrition to function and perform optimally. Macro and micronutrients such as protein, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D are crucial in maintaining muscle health.

Moreover, proper hydration may reduce the risk of muscle cramps, keeping the muscles well-lubricated. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Pro Tip

Muscle cramping can also occur if your electrolytes are low; sweat-inducing activities can cause this. If you work out, have a sports drink to refuel your body.

See a Chiropractor

A chiropractor may also improve your flexibility by performing manual adjustments and manipulations to your spine and joints. They’ll tailor their care and treatment approaches to your specific needs and goals, ultimately restoring proper alignment in your body. This can alleviate pain and improve your overall range of motion.

For instance, one of the benefits of decompression therapy is that it stretches the spine gently and may improve overall flexibility. Regular visits to a chiropractor can provide long-term benefits for your mobility and overall well-being.

Use a Foam Roller

Foam rolling is another excellent method for increasing your range of motion. To use a foam roller effectively, place the roller under the targeted muscle group, apply gentle pressure, and roll slowly back and forth. Applying gentle pressure to specific muscle groups increases blood flow to muscles and moves lactic acid.

Pro Tip

The type of foam roller you use also matters. Soft ones are best for beginners, while firmer ones may be more suitable for athletes who do intense workouts.

Strengthen Muscles

Strengthening exercises can build muscle and support the surrounding joints, thus improving the range of motion. If you lack leg flexibility, exercises like squats and lunges can improve mobility in the hips and knees. Similarly, if you have a limited range of motion in your shoulders, try doing lateral raises or overhead presses several times per week.

Maintaining a good range of motion is crucial for overall health and well-being. Always listen to your body and consult a health-care professional if you experience any unusual pain or limitations in movement.

Hi! I’m Christine!

It’s Never Too Late to Rewrite Your Story

If you’re standing at a crossroads—wondering where the “you” you used to know went—you are not alone.

Maybe you spent years pouring yourself into your family, homeschooling, raising kids with big needs and even bigger hearts.
Maybe you’re navigating a broken marriage, facing an empty nest that feels a lot emptier than you ever imagined, or grieving distance from your adult children.

You may be asking yourself: What happened to the life I dreamed of?
What happens now?

Here’s the truth:
It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

No matter the detours or disappointments, there is still hope.
There are still beautiful chapters ahead, waiting for you to write them.

  • A reminder that your story isn’t over—and the next part might just be the best yet

My Story

Hi, I’m Christine—a marriage and motherhood survivor, a recovering perfectionist, and a woman determined to live the second half of life with purpose, passion, and a whole lot of pizzazz.

I spent decades doing what many women do: pouring myself into my family, raising children (some with big needs and even bigger hearts), homeschooling, navigating a long and complicated marriage, and trying to be everything for everyone. Somewhere in all of that, I lost parts of myself I didn’t even realize were gone.

During those intense years of deep mothering, I also wrote seven books for major Christian publishers about parenting, adoption, and homeschooling. I spoke at conferences, encouraged other moms, and tried to offer wisdom from the trenches.

And then—everything I held dear was challenged.

My kids started struggling in ways I couldn’t fix.
My marriage unraveled.
And so did the life I had so carefully built.

Divorce, the empty nest, the ache of adult children who didn’t launch quite the way I’d hoped—it all collided at once.

Sound familiar?

But here’s the good news:
It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

Now in my late 60s, I’m building a rich, meaningful life—not despite the hard chapters, but because of them.
I started dating again (and got married in May 2025!), I’m working full-time in my career as a criminal lawyer, and I’m dreaming bigger than ever.
I’m a woman of faith who’s walked through the fire—and found new life on the other side.

Let’s Walk This Road Together

If you’re wondering what’s next after the life you planned didn’t turn out the way you hoped, you’re in the right place.
We don’t have to shrink or settle.
We get to rise, reclaim, and sparkle.

So pour a cup of coffee (or something stronger), and let’s keep going, together.
