2 Issues That You May Need To Handle When Your Kid Turns Into a Teen

Parents aren’t always prepared for the teenage years of their child’s life. The path from a child into adulthood can be a rough road to travel and it can suck everyone in along the way. You might find that your child ends up in quite a lot of trouble around this time, particularly if they are still learning right from wrong. Here are some of the issues that you might face through the teen years and a little advice on how to handle them the right way.

Rebellion

Teens tend to rebel as they try and separate themselves from you and gain their independence. When on this journey, they can take the wrong path. For instance, they could end up on the wrong side of the law. It’s not uncommon for teens to be arrested for a variety of different reasons. One of the most common is petty theft such as shoplifting or perhaps stealing something from someone you know. While this can be embarrassing, it’s important to ensure that things don’t get out of hand. You don’t, for instance, want an action like this to lead to a criminal record. The trick is to find the right legal support like the popular law firm Morgan Benfield. They’ll help ensure that this doesn’t impact your child’s future.

Bullying

Bullying is an issue which is far more common than most would like to admit. Indeed, one report suggests that 75% of individuals will be bullied to some extent before they reach the age of 18. As you might have guessed, bullying will often take place during the teen years and you need to be prepared for this possibility. There are a number of ways to approach bullying. However, the most important thing is that your child has someone to talk to and who they can turn to about this issue. It is imperative that they do not feel alone or lost.

People often think it’s difficult for the parent of the child being bullied. But what about the parents of the child who is responsible for the action? Well, this can also be quite troubling.

You need to try to determine what the root cause of the action is. Where is the need to bully coming from? It’s true to say that a lot of people who end up being the bully have been the victim themselves. You might also need to assess their home life and determine if your child is unhappy. Be aware that exploring the cause can lead to some secrets that will be difficult to cope with. It’s important to remain as understanding as possible and provide the support that your child needs.

We hope this helps you understand some of the more common issues that you can face with your child when they become a teenager. Often, you will need to make sure that you are patient, understanding and most importantly, providing the support they need. Even when it seems as though they do not deserve it. Remember, they are still learning and they are still finding their way.

Hi, I’m Christine

Have you been a wholehearted mother, but time, toddlers and teenagers have moved on? If you are wondering what comes next for you, you’ll feel right at home here.

Or, are you a mom for whom family life has been non-Pinworthy and parenting has been downright painful? I hear ya. There are many of us around.

Are you looking for a life full of exploration and adventure after the nest empties, but maybe you have no idea how to go about doing that? Stick around! We’ll explore adventures together to help you gain more clarity for your own path.

After a couple decades of writing books and articles about parenting, homeschooling and adoption, speaking to homeschoolers and other parent groups, and reaching out to the mom in the trenches who was trying to make the best of it - my kids grew up. Some grew up and grew away. I was determined to find a way out of the pain, emptiness and lack of direction.

For many of us, the journey starts with something we moms are not accustomed to. After years of caring for and serving others, sometimes we forget the beauty and wonder of US. We need to spend some time getting to know the parts of ourselves that have lain dormant, and take the time to explore interests and passions that we set aside.

I’d like to invite you to get the “What’s Next for Mom” workbook and jump into this growing tribe of Moms who are emptying the nest and filling the life! Let’s reignite your Mojo after Mothering!
